Tampa, FL - Artist-run, nonprofit gallery Tempus Projects is proud to present ‘STICKS OF FIRE: Tertium Sunistra’, an exhibition featuring submissions from our annual open call with guest juror Eileen Goldenberg. ‘STICKS OF FIRE’ is a multi-media, juried art exhibition focusing on the theme of the sinister side of the Sunshine State. The word ‘sunistra’ is a portmanteau of "sunshine" and the Latin word "sinistra" and reflects the often idyllic/nightmarish dichotomy Florida embodies in its natural, social and political climates. Its third iteration is rooted in a Tampa epithet as the ‘lightning capital of the world’.

HOUSE of TAU // represents the work of Karen Tauches, @k.tauches an artist, designer, and curator based in Atlanta, Georgia. Working in ceramics, graphic design, and photography, her designs refer to the business of real estate and how it interacts with the natural environment. For Tempus Projects, she sourced historic images from Floridamemory.com, a free online archive. In particular, she is inspired by the work of John Kunkel Small, an early botanist and explorer of Florida who chronicled its flora and fauna from 1916 to 1933 with his wet plate camera.
