POST PARADISE :: HOUSE of TAU
April 18, 2020 - April 30, 2020
POST-PARADISE :: A Mini Solo Exhibition by HOUSE OF TAU :: HOUSE of TAU // represents the work of Karen Tauches, @k.tauches an artist, designer, and curator based in Atlanta, Georgia. Working in ceramics, graphic design, and photography, her designs refer to the business of real estate and how it interacts with the natural environment. For Tempus Projects, she sourced historic images from Floridamemory.com, a free online archive. In particular, she is inspired by the work of John Kunkel Small, an early botanist and explorer of Florida who chronicled its flora and fauna from 1916 to 1933 with his wet plate camera. His documentation stands as a haunting testament to the paradise that existed before development. Tauches superimposes his black and white images over colored graphic boxes, referring to cheap real estate publications and signage which feature images of idyllic unoccupied land for sale. But unlike the old newsprint and online listings, her “ceramic photos” are quite archival.
All works are for sale. All proceeds from this event will be applied to our newest fundraising goal for 2020, to develop a paid full-time director position for Tempus Projects, for which The Gobioff Foundation has pledged $30,000 in matching funds. All works priced $40/48$ each with dimensions ranging from 1.5”-4”.
All our Sustainer Container Members have a special gift coming in the post. Your locker gifts are on their way. Since you can’t come to us, your tiny ceramic photo is coming to you!
