Tempus Projects celebrates its third year with TEMPUS FUGIT, TEMPUS TEES. The expression – either in the Latin (tempus fugit) or English form ("time flies") – is proverbial, generally with the intended sense, "Time's a-wasting." As such, it expresses concern that one's limited time is being consumed by nothing in particular or by something which may have little intrinsic substance, importance, or urgency.
The work of Roger Chamieh explores the concepts of mortality, aging and fear through the use of haunting visual metaphors. The dynamics of fragility, tension and contradictions are examined through the dependence of forces both seen and unseen. Working within this context of oppositions, he creates artwork that challenges one’s conventional ideas of the sculptural object through his use of materials, both constant and ephemeral and the precarious balance realized in the execution.
Between Earth and Sky is the first exhibition by the Tampa photography collective comprised of Wendy Babcox, Jeremy Chandler, Adam Ekberg, Becky Flanders, Noelle Mason, Chris Otten, Kym O’Donnell and James Reiman. For the past year, the group has gathered monthly at the Tempus Projects space to share and discuss new work. The goal of the collective is to be a support system for each member’s individual art practice, while serving as a relaxed place to fellowship with peers. The group also strives to engage the local creative community through exhibitions and talks.

All current or former Hillsborough Community College Art Students, these artists have shown a zealous interest in furthering their own work and in contributing to community. Each, building relationships with other artists by volunteering their time and expanding their educational experiences beyond the classroom and into their own profession practices. These artists all have a connection to abstraction and ‘muting’ their developing content. As they continue their craft, their paths and singular directions are coming into focus and defining each artist as an individual.

A transcendental meditation of sorts, the showcase of mixed media by Anthony Record and Justin Bryan Nelson explores what lies beneath and beyond our physical reality.
VISIBLE/INVISIBLE brings together the work of three innovative artists. Each works in a different medium, yet they share a similar visual language through their use of shape, form, and space. The exhibition is a multi-media exploration of how each of these artists communicates these principles, and how each applies them in a captivating and elegant manner.
The work ‘Purple Nurple’ is an all-oil, splattered and patterned investigation into situations, atmospheres, still-lifes, daydreams, and bodies all caught up in a thick humid, and seductive flatness. The paintings take both pre packaged and idiosyncratic fantasies limbo of pop culture, butting up against actual experience and the wonderfully soupy problems this presents –both as images and moralities.
In celebration of the 2012 centenary of experimental composer John Cage’s birth, Tempus Projects is proud to present “Things Not Seen Before: A Tribute to John Cage” a visual art exhibition organized by Independent Curator Jade Dellinger. Inspired by a line from a letter the curator (as a student in the 80’s) received from the late, great composer concerning the work of Marcel Duchamp, Cage noted: “I am not interested in the names of movements but rather in seeing and making things not seen before.”According to Jade Dellinger, “The artworks will be positioned on the gallery walls by utilizing John Cage’s own (rather unorthodox) chance operations-based installation method, and, as several of the works on paper serve a dual-function as ‘graphic scores’, there remains the potential for musical interpretation of the artworks on exhibit.” As the curator continues, “As his own practice made abundantly clear, I believe John Cage would have appreciated our modest tribute and this potential for 'things not heard before' too.”
Scrapping for the Arts is an alternate fundraising structure for emerging exhibition spaces and cultural institutions. Donations of scrap metal are collected, sorted and used to generate funds to support unique arts projects in need of small capital contributions.
