Join us Saturday, July 20 at the award-winning Mermaid Tavern in Seminole Heights for Diamond Life: A tribute to legendary artist Patrick Nagel, a fundraiser benefiting Tempus Projects. Since 1974, when his work first achieved prominence in Playboy magazine, the art of Patrick Nagel has been widely exhibited and collected. Best known for his sultry illustrations, and album cover art for Duran Duran, Nagel’s iconic images have become synonymous with the decadence of 1980s. Nagel died of a heart attack in 1984, at the age of 38, after participating in a 15-minute celebrity "Aerobathon" to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Nagel prints are exhibited for this one-night event and available via silent auction. Limited edition Tempus/Nagel T-shirts, pin-back buttons and totes are available for purchase, as well as your chance to win great 80’s inspired gifts from our generous sponsors.

The 2013 Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts announces plans for PIRACY REDUX: Re-examining the Myth of the Buccaneer, a project featuring art, video, dance and music from local and international talent, in Kiley Gardens in Downtown Tampa. Presented by The Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts and curated by Tempus Projects and Hampton Arts Management, the exhibition explores the myth of the pirate as it relates to Tampa’s Gasparilla celebrations; specifically, the juxtaposition of the true image of the buccaneer as it conflicts with the representation engendered by the wealthy Caucasian males who began the tradition more than 50 years ago. Artists from diverse cultural backgrounds explore this image through a variety of mediums, including video, sculpture and installation. Furthermore, they re-contextualize the image of the pirate and offer their interpretations of the mythology of piracy.
"I am a shop rat. My father is an automotive paint and body man by trade; consequently I grew up quite literally in the shop. My first in-depth interaction with the use of material, shape, form, and volume resulted from direct contact with automobiles. With skill sets inherent to the custom automotive field I attempt to create a platform in which to explore contemporary issues and describe them visually through material. This engagement ultimately leads to the exploration of what it means to be a young, reckless male navigating through contemporary culture with high art interests and a low brow upbringing." - Taylor Pilote
