Suns. Moons. Stars. Dreams.
Kalup Linzy is currently based in Brooklyn, New York, employs a lo-fi aesthetic heavily influenced by soap operas. Linzy's video works investigate stereotypes of race, gender, and sexual identity. Although Linzy collaborates often, most notably with actor and artist James Franco, he regularly appears in his work, taking on a variety of outrageous characters.
New York Times art critic Holland Cotter famously opened his review of the artist's first New York solo exhibitions in 2005 with the statement "A star is born. His name is Kalup Linzy." Since then, Linzy's work has been acquired by institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Rubell Family Collection, Miami; The Studio Museum in Harlem; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Tempus Projects hosted Linzy as their Artist in Residence from April 24 until May 24, 2016.
Suns. Moons. Stars. Dreams. was the collection of collages, videos and photography works created in Tampa during his time at the Tempus Projects Artist Residency Program.
