GEORGE’S LOVELY VARIETY: Subscriptive Objects and Correspondence from George Ferrandi is a solo exhibition by George Ferrandi at Tempus Volta.
“For much of the last decade, my work as an artist has centered on direct social engagement of one type or another. Some projects have culminated in community-driven parades, some in elaborate live performances with highly untrained, mostly willing non-professionals, some in simple subway rides with strangers. The pandemic and necessary social distancing prompted me to question what social engagement could look like in my work during times of isolation, as well as what kinds of interactions were missing from my life. I decided to develop a project that would celebrate personal interaction with beloved objects, and also volunteer a kind of intimacy in voice that might be welcome during times of isolation or loneliness.” -George Ferrandi
George’s Lovely Variety is a monthly subscription of art in the mail. The approach for 2023 invents secular rituals for connection—to each other, to the future, to our deeper selves. This year’s GLV offerings take the form of home kits for rituals we didn't realize were essential—some playful, some profound. Each contains objects/images that are works of art in their own right, but also serve as meaningful components of a personal ceremony.
George Ferrandi is an American artist primarily known for her performance, installation, and participatory projects that address issues of vulnerability, impermanence, fallibility, and spectacle, often through experimental approaches to narrative. Her work is known for employing unique humor and a deep sense of humanity.
In 2011, Ferrandi founded the studio program and art gallery Wayfarers in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York.
Ferrandi’s works operate at the intersections of performance, sculpture, and theater. She uses staged and improvised interventions to explore her interests in how gestures alter the perception of space and how narrative is used as a tool to sculpt time.

George Ferrandi is an American artist whose performance, installation, and participatory projects address issues of vulnerability, impermanence, fallibility, and spectacle, often through experimental approaches to narrative. Employing a unique humor and a deep sense of humanity, her work ranges in form and scale from a simple gesture—like resting her head on the shoulder of a stranger on the subway—to a giant spectacle—like parading with hundreds of people through the streets of South Philly. It’s often a collaborative experiment in storytelling, with participants becoming performers in the narrative or even creating it.
