SIGNS-IN-SPACE :: K. Tauches

“When we make a sign, we “add space” to our environment. Walls and screens–often of enormous size–are erected where only air existed before. In this way, our Natural environment becomes full of boxes and messaging. Forests, fields, oceans, and skies become decorated with neon circles, parallelograms and triangles.
. . .As we enter the realm of outer space, how will we commercialize it? Will we put more signs out there, too?
Using altered photography, ceramics, and graphic design, I present artworks with an aesthetic which combines idealized natural landscapes with the forms, shapes and colors found in advertising.”
Karen Tauches is an artist, designer, and curator based out of Atlanta, GA. Using photography and graphic design, her work focuses on clashes and connections between the commercial and Natural worlds.
