SHIP SHOW :: Johanna Keefe & Kyle Lascelle
DECEMBER 18, 2020 - JANUARY 30,2021
Tampa, FL - Artist-run, nonprofit gallery Tempus Projects is proud to present ‘SHIP SHOW’, a collaboration from Johanna Keefe & Kyle Lascelle. This exhibition features investigations of studio and material process embarked upon while the two were professors at RIT in New York.
Johanna lives and works in Augusta, Georgia. Mainly focusing on ceramics, sculpture, and photography, her work questions the origins, brutality, and beauty of present day luxury brands. Her artwork focuses on the structures of porcelain manufacture, agricultural trade, and land acquisition in the Americas from the 17th century to present day. Her porcelains and photographs create visual narratives about the different kinds of vessels that navigated and still navigate global trade routes across the Atlantic.
Kyle Lascelle is a potter who works primarily in stoneware and fires in soda. He received his MFA in ceramics from RIT and received a BA in Philosophy from Arcadia University. His passion in clay is making and relating to historic pottery and how it relates to ideas of utility, intimacy, people, and the contemporary art world.
