Tempus Projects, is pleased to present Awkward Handshake, recent works by Jake Troyli. Troyli is a painter born in Boston, MA, currently working out of Tampa, FL. Jake’s work focuses on the societal systems in which ideas of race, otherness and culture are subversively perpetuated and proliferated. To do this he draws on his own life experience as a bi-racial person of color, making current and retrospective observations on his own self, surroundings, and ways of thinking. Primarily a representational oil painter, Troyli also uses pen-and-ink drawings and collaged imagery to manifest detailed, layered critiques, while remaining humorously self-aware and self-critical.
