RECENT WORKS :: George Long & Mario Schambon
02.05.10
George Long's work addresses the human emotion of wanting; his depictions of individuals transforming through time and space are manifested in work ranging from mixed media drawings to animation. Long makes original drawings of figures in movement then manipulates the original drawings through tracing, stamping, copying, and transferring them repeatedly onto the paper. In the process each generation of the original image is degraded, and at the same time new information is added. The final figures fade and shift, repeat, overlap, separate and blend into each other with wispy, broken and smudged lines.
Born at the end of the seventies, Mario Schambon emigrated with his family to the US just as tensions were ramping up in Escobar-era Colombia. Always an immigrant, he has extensively traveled stoking a desire for the unusual and the unknown. Past exhibitions in the US and Canada have seen his unique installations activate abandoned or otherwise mundane architectural spaces using repurposed or recycled material and media in unexpected ways.
